Midazolam Injection, USP – Sedative Agent for Oral Surgery

Description:
Midazolam is a short-acting benzodiazepine used for its anxiolytic, sedative, and amnestic properties. In oral surgery, Injectable Midazolam is frequently utilized to manage patient anxiety and facilitate conscious sedation, providing a smoother surgical experience for both the patient and clinician.

Concentration & Form:
Available in multiple concentrations (e.g., 1 mg/mL or 5 mg/mL), Midazolam Injection is supplied in sterile, preservative-free vials for intravenous or intramuscular use.

Clinical Use in Oral Surgery:
Midazolam is commonly administered as part of a conscious sedation protocol for procedures such as wisdom tooth extractions, implant placements, and other invasive dental treatments. It allows patients to remain relaxed and cooperative, often with little memory of the procedure, while maintaining protective airway reflexes when dosed appropriately.

Key Benefits:

  • Rapid onset of sedation (typically within minutes)

  • Short duration of action, ideal for outpatient dental procedures

  • Reduces procedural anxiety and enhances patient comfort

  • Can be titrated to desired sedation level with careful monitoring

Administration & Monitoring:
Midazolam must be administered by trained dental or medical professionals with appropriate sedation certification. Continuous monitoring of vital signs is required during and after administration due to the potential for respiratory depression, especially when used with opioids or other CNS depressants.

Warnings and Considerations:

  • Not for use without proper resuscitation equipment and trained personnel

  • Risk of respiratory compromise and hypotension, especially in elderly or debilitated patients

  • Contraindicated in patients with known benzodiazepine hypersensitivity

  • Use in pregnancy and pediatric populations should be carefully evaluated

Prescription Information:
This product is a Schedule IV Controlled Substance. A valid state license is required to purchase.
